Strategy and Growth Officer

Location: Hybrid

Contract type: FTC for 1 year from April 2024 (subject to funding)

Role Overview:

As the Strategy and Growth Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of Mela, a dynamic cultural organisation dedicated to showcasing South Asian arts. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive growth strategy, with a focus on expanding Mela into a year-round cultural entity. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record in organisational growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a short-to-long-term strategic plan for Mela, aligning with organisational goals and objectives identifying the required resource, fundraising elements.
  • Identify growth opportunities and potential challenges, providing actionable recommendations to the team
  • Lead efforts to transition Mela from a two-day festival to a year-round cultural organisation.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with local authorities, venues, and cultural organizations to expand Mela’s reach.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create a touring event model for Mela, ensuring logistical and operational feasibility.
  • Evaluate potential locations and develop a plan for taking Mela to new audiences.
  • Create a high-level business plan for ayear-round festival calendar, curating diverse cultural experiences throughout the year.
  • Work closely with the Mela team to ensure alignment with Mela’s mission and values.
  • Utilise data analytics to track and measure the impact of growth initiatives.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to the executive team, identifying key performance indicators and areas for improvement.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in strategic planning and organisational growth within the cultural or events sector.
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profile and commercial attributes within the cultural landscape and arts scene.

Junior Producer x 2

Location: Hybrid

Contract type:Contract, 35 days between April – August 2024

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Junior Producer. As a Junior Producer, you will play a crucial role in the planning, coordination, and execution of our commission for Mela 2024, with a focus on youth-led, LGBTQ+ and new music genre initiatives. This position is ideal for someone passionate about the arts, events, and community engagement, looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of event production. You will gain mentorship from an experience Mela Producer who will provide support, guidance and share industry knowledge and contacts to help you achieve the requirement outcomes. By leading on the commissions, you will have a creative input that will be ambitious, inclusive and relevant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of commissions, ensuring all aspects of the project are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Work with partners, stakeholders and community groups to to ensure seamless coordination between different aspects of the event.
  • Work closely with the Apna Pind, Satrang+ and Pataka commission, focusing on youth-led initiatives and ensuring the active participation of young individuals in project planning and execution.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced producer, including the sharing of knowledge, insights, and industry connections.
  • Actively participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills in event production.
  • Assist in logistical planning for events, including venue coordination, equipment setup, and breakdown.
  • Contribute to the development of operational plans, considering health and safety requirements.

Experience:

  • A passion for the arts, culture, and community engagement.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Prior experience in producing, event planning or production is advantageous
